Gerard Bilders is accepted as the founder of the hague school, active during his stay at his father's atelier in Oosterbeek (Gelderland). His early death stopped a genial painter who gave inspiration to painters like Willem Roelofs, Paul Gabriel and later also to his father Johannes H.W. Bilders.
