Most of the Hague school painters were attracted by the sea and the beach. Henrik Mesdag, Jacob Maris, Barend Blommers and followers were all very active in a specific period between 1880 and 1900. Typical for weissenbruch is the contrasting brillance between sky , clouds and the sea. Of the presented painting several versions were made with different placing of the incredients ships, beach and people.
